Avast is stopping me from sending emails

Hello to anyone that can help me

I’m using avast for my internet security and it is stopping me from sending emails, but i can still receive emails and use MSN and browse the internet.

Is there anyone that can tell me how to fix this please.

It would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Joanne

Hi Joanne…

What POP3 mail client are you using, Outlook Express? What is the error message you are receiving and what operating system (Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista, etc.,) are you using? Did this problem happen due to any changes you may have made to your account or mail settings or to avast?

Best Regards…

Sorry to add to the questions but …

can you please tell us the version of avast you are using (right click on avast icon in the Systray > About avast)? Are you using a firewall … if so which one?

Hi Alan…

Please don’t be. The more we have to work with the better.

Best Regards…

Same here. SMTP not working properly with TB and Avast! This is since 82 update. It seems to happen intermittently. Possibly something to do with the timeout? It gives an error message for connection refused.

I disabled outbound scanning and TB sends fine. No log entry in firewall for blocking avast.

while you appear to have hijacked the post made by the original poster (please in future create a new thread for your problem) …

avast mail scanning is binary … it works always or it does not work always … it is hard to think of any case where it is intermittent. There is no timeout in avast email scanning.

What is the error message you are seeing and what is the mail client reporting it? Is the problem only with sending as you seem to indicate?

ooops. sorry - I will create my own thread. I thought it may be easier for common problems to be in one thread.

I will enable outbound scanning tomorrow, get the error message and start a new thread.
