Avast is stopping my card reader and Secunia from operating...HELP

Now that I have Avast installed, my card reader will no longer read my SD cards from my camera???
I find I must reboot the computer, and then I may get one opportunity where my card reader works. But,after I safely eject the SD card and insert another SD card, the reader will not work, and not with any card inserted…but the Avast symbol in the tool bar is turning ?
What to do? ???

Also, when I open my Secunia program, it begins to open but with in seconds is shut down… and the Avast symbol is turning round.???
Can I tell Avast that the Secunia is a safe program?..if so…how? ???
thanks,
and I await your replies.

“Avast symbol in the tool bar is turning” is nothing more than a sign that Avast is doing something, but it doesn’t mean that Avast is giving you any problem with your SD cards or with anything else.

The same goes to Secunia and Avast. Is Avast giving you any kind of sign or notification that it found something wrong?

In any case, you can go to Avast main GUI → settings → exclusions and add whatever you want. By default, you can select a complete folder, but then you can edit the path to specify specific files.

In addition, the same type of exclusion could be needed in Avast main GUI → File System Shield → EXPERT settings.

To be clear, I am NOT recommending to do this for your case (specially with he little info we have). I am just answering to the technical question about how to add exceptions/exclusions.

the second one is enough for “on access” scanning exclusion,Avast main GUI → File System Shield → EXPERT settings.
the first one only applies to “on demand” scans, which doesnt seem related to OPs problem.

I answered to both options so to avoid future questions from the same user.

I want to be clear, since for some reason it seems that what I wrote wasn’t clear enough: neither of the exclusions lists are really related to flywelder’s problem (IMHO), and that’s why I didn’t expand on the technical explanations.

Moreover, those type of technical questions are easily answered in the “Help Center” from Avast main GUI, or in the FAQs. Sometimes it seems neither sources are being read, even when it is clearly easier to read them than to post a question in the forum. Or maybe we (forum users) are so good that we caused people to become too lazy? ;D

@flywelder…when you get the described behavior (cant read SD, Avast! ball spinning in system tray), open Avast!'s UI and look at the graphs in the real-time shield section, see if there is something being scanned in a loop (over and over and over), make sure to check them all (file/script/behavior shields)

Also, you could try setting the autosandbox to “ask” if it is on auto-decide.

not unlikely ady4um,you and some of the other members truly are helpful.

cheers.
