I turn on Silent Mode to stop notifications, but avast keeps returning to Smart Mode after I shut down my computer. This started happening after I recently updated to the latest version of Avast.
You don’t say what Avast Program you are using a Free or Paid option could well differ.
Mine remains on Limited mode as it was before the update to - avast! free 24.4.6112 (build 24.4.9067.762) UI 1.0.803 - and after the system restart after the update.
I am using the free version
Latest free version is here: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=327345.0
Is this what you have?

Hi, thank you for reporting this. We’ve identified the culprit and will release a fix soon. In the meantime, you can use one of the other options like the “Limited Mode” suggested above.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Hi again, this problem should now be resolved in new micro update 835. Silent Mode will remain selected after reboot.
Thanks for the update, many will be pleased.
when is it coming out?
This micro update is already released. If you still experience this problem, please reboot your computer and check again.
Experiencing the same issue (from https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=327411), and no this micro update did not fix it, even after several reboots.
Hi! this is weird… I have two computers and on this otherone everything works just fine oddly… I didnt expect this to be honest…
To just to make sure even here… i have now made an overall test to see what’s working and are ON after each restart/reboot…
-
Limited Mode is ON and works after a restart!
-
Silent Mode (Both via tray and notification) is ON after a restart!
The version i am using here is… Free Antivirus 24.4.6112 (build 24.4.9067.835), 240511-6, 1.0.803… on Windows 10 Pro, Version 22H2, OS build 19045.4046…
I’m sorry to hear that. Can you please generate and send us logs from your Avast installation? The process is described here: https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/submit-support-file/
Once the logs are generated, please send me the “File ID” of your logs.
@prokopes_: I tried to ping you in the original topic I posed for this issue, but it appears there is no such feature in this forum… Anyway, here is the File ID: PQ7Q5, I hope we can figure out what’s broken on my side
EDIT: Since the Windows update from yesterday that forced my PC to reboot it appears to work as intended. So either shutdown+power up did not count as a reboot somehow and that’s why it wasn’t working before or the Windows patch released yesterday fixed it ¯_(ツ)_/¯
There is a PM function - in the forums, but you may not have enough posts as a newbie to use the function.
That said when you reply, if prokopes_ is subscribed (Notify) to the topic he would get a notification to a new post.
Thank you for your reply @FPE. Regrettably, the support file wasn’t delivered to our backend for some reason.
Can you please upload the support file manually to our FTP? It’s a pretty straightforward process, described in this article: https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/ftp-file-upload/
- You can find the support file in the directory C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Local\AvastSupport
- The “AppData” folder is a hidden folder, so you may need to set your system to view hidden files temporarily: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/view-hidden-files-and-folders-in-windows-97fbc472-c603-9d90-91d0-1166d1d9f4b5
- The file name of the support file will be similar to “20240516_1005_PQ7Q5_3020664591-09ta9929.zip”
