I have posted earlier regarding this issue…we have tried AVG and Avast and both will not update and keep stopping. I had someone ask me for my dmp files and I sent them but have never heard back. Can someone please help me on this issue??? I have no idea what is going on!!! I need help…I do not want my computer unsecured. This is a desktop…running Windows XP Home Edition…it is actually really fast though so I don’t get that at all! PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks! :-\
Hi,
1 First try a repair of Avast within ADD AND REMOVE PROGRAMS. If it fails to work use avast removal tool.
2. You will need to remove AVG with its removal tool if you have used AVG uninstal through avg program is not enough!.
3. Did you have any other antivirus on before avast or avg?. Ie Norton or Macafee. If you did then you will need to use their removal tools to get rid of any bits in the registry.
4. Have you scanned the computer for spyware?
5. Use Malwarebytes or good old Spybot Search & Destroy. & Use Crapcleaner to remove all junk temp files and use the registry cleaner within it.
6. After that try a new instal of avast
Ok…I will try it…I have uninstalled and reinstalled both and I have run malwarebites…I think I took that off thinking it might be interfering…thanks for the help…wish I could just use the older version…that worked!
When I tried to repair it…it said…error processing packages…please use full update…
this is the copy of the log…

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
Also, AVG Remover can be downloaded here: http://www.avg.com/download-tools. Run it
