Hello boys and girls, I will give details, this may end up being a
suggestion for AVAST, if it isn’t a bug or something I am overlooking.
I did a full scan (scan archive, thorough).
When the scan was done it shows the results window I guess it is.
It also shows “unable to scan” results, either because of passworded
or a corrupt file.
So i noticed about 8 or 10, ZIPS that have maps for a game I play,
that Avast said were corrupted. no big deal.
I think I cleared the log.
So i am trying to see those files again So i cna fix or re download them
but I have no idea what they are, because the log is gone.
So I tried to rescan same settings and all that. And it will not show them again.
How do I fix this ?
This also brings up a few suggestions or bugs.
(1). It only seems to do it with a FULL/SCAN ARCHIVE, THOROUGH, scan.
(2). It will not do it ( or does not seem to do it) even with a FULL/Scan Archive/ No thorough scan, or vice versa.
(3). Why it does not show up as a “Last scan” when you right click and scan
files or folders or even if you select specific “FOLDERS” and not a FULL scan.
This is off topic of the last scan info.
(4). It seems AVAST scans using a different Virus info or something,
When you do a “start avast antivirus” in the menu right clicking the A icon.
then it does when you right click a file or folder, because I get different information.
Full scan would find something and right click will not.
Which also leads me to, I thought Avast scans not just pages you are about
to view, but also files you download ?.
If this is the case, It also uses a different Database or whatever,
because it would have found a problem with a file that it later finds
a problem with, when you do a FULL scan.
But my mioan problem is the corrupted zip files because I have about 1500
and I if Avast would show me those 10 or how ever many again, would
save me alot …
Any help ? Clues ?..
By examining 1) the reason given by avast! for not being able to scan the files, 2) the location of the files, you can get an idea of what program they relate to. You may need to expand the column headings to see all the text.
Files that can’t be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.
Actually, ALL of them.
I guess, I will try this one by one.
I ran a FULL, thorough, scan Archive, Scan, and at the end of the scan
it showed me the problems, and files that were passworded and the files
that were corrupt.
I need to know what files are corrupt again, So I can take a closer look.
they are not in the log OR last scan,
SO WHY isn’t AVAST showing me this now ?
How do I get it to show me them again ?
I have ran scans but it still will not.
If you have the Home version and close the Simple User Interface, your session has ended and the results are discarded, gone, history, no more.
Only the Pro version retains scan history that you can go back into the Enhanced User Interface and view the scan results. Though I’m not entirely sure if the files that couldn’t be scanned it retained.
So you would effectively have to run the scan again to see the results in the Home version or buy the Pro version.
CORRECT.
I said in the first post I Re-Scanned with the exact same settings.
And even tried other settings for the scans
(meaning the first re-scan didn’t show me the files, so I tried scanning
with different settings, 3 or 4 times, for a total of about 5 scans)
A “SCAN” is not RE-showing me those files for some wierd, unfortunate reason.
Well I can’t understand that, but what I do understand is I wouldn’t waste that amount of time trying to track down files that couldn’t be scanned. They are just that files that can’t be scanned.
If you are thinking of looking at those considered corrupt, lets assume you were able to find what they were in the avast results and then you found where they were on the hard disk.
How are you going to check they are corrupt ?
If they are actually are corrupt, how are you going to fix them ?
If they are corrupt they have been on your system for some time (file properties) without causing a problem, let sleeping dogs lie.
If they aren’t corrupt assuming you found a way to check you have still spent a lot of time chasing what isn’t a problem.
Re the last point above I’m sure you may already have seen this explanation:
Corrupted Archive file, etc. this could simply mean that avast is unable to unpack it to scan the contents of the archive and assuming it is because it is corrupt. Even if it were corrupt there is nothing that a user can do to resolve any corruption, short of replacing the file. This I wouldn’t recommend (especially if this is for archives in the \System Volume Information folder, part of the system restore function) unless you are getting problems relating to that file outside of the avast scan.
Lol. It seems you didn’t think of alot of things I can do.
I remembered 1 of the files it said was corrupt.
btw they are all zips of maps for a video game. whcih I mentioned.
I went and tried 7z and the basic window xp zips and they both said “bad end of file”, or something similar.
They have only been on my computer maybe 1 month.
IF I can find which ones are corrupt again, which I’m sure Avast is correct,
I know what site that I got that particular file from, So i can re download
and Try again, or contact the web site if it is still corrupt to see
if they have one that is not corrupt, or fix that one. whatever.
There are 2000 maps, downloaded from various web sites.
Now unfortunately for me, that kills everything you said sir
And as I can not understand why Avast will not log them as not being able to
be scanned because of them being corrupt Again like it did before,
is also beyond me.
Which if I could get solved I would then be able to see that log again, to tell
which files they are.
Not that there is nothing you can do if you manage to track them down:
Even if it were corrupt there is nothing that a user can do to resolve any corruption, short of replacing the file.
7z, is trying to open the archive and it is that which it is reporting a problem and possibly not the maps contained within. So you would certainly have to download that particular archive.
If the map files within the archive are corrupt playing the game I would have revealed that too, but I suspect they are OK just the archive method is the problem. However, if 7z can’t open that file I wonder if the game would be able to open it to extract the maps ???
Unfortunate as it may seem that is the reality of it and I stand by what I said, there is little the user can do about corrupt files as you are finding out.
Why it isn’t picking up these files on subsequent scans I have no idea ‘as I said before.’ The only possibility is the duration between your first scan that reported the possible corruption and subsequent scans; there have been program updates where there have been improvements to the avast unpackers, which may have been able to get past the problem, but that is speculation.
