Avast log contains 7GB -kernel-manual.dmp

In the log files under C:\ProgramData\Avast Software\Avast\log, 3 files have been observed: 7GB .dmp, 1.5GB .mdmp, and 430MB .mdmp.

  1. How can we prevent this? If our empty space is less than 20GB, how can Avast suddenly take 10GB? It’s a massive concern.
  2. When does Avast clean this up?
  3. Can avast periodically clean up these files, and is there any manual setting to clean them immediately?
  4. If our HDD is full, is there any way to make sure Avast can’t brick our system by creating enormous files and leaving 0B of free space?
  5. Is this a security issue if our memory contents are leaking on an insecure path?

Two thoughts:

(1) under Avast / Settings / Troubleshooting [path may differ from my Avast Free version] do you have DEBUG LOGGING enabled? if so try disabling

(2) under Windows System Properties / Advanced / Startup and Recovery / Settings / System Failure do you have “small memory dump (256k)” selected, or something else?

Not certain the Windows setting has anything to do with it but can’t hurt to check
