Using the free version of Avast for the last 7 days. I’m impressed! But! If I see a single ad pop-up, I’ll remove it instantly. Please remove that option completely and you’ll have double the users you have now.
It’s a old topic they don’t take any step regarding that because it is a free product.
Truth be told, Ad pop ups do come in some occasions! It’s nothing aggressive or annoying. It just shows you discounted price to purchase Avast antivirus paid versions and etc. You can simply close it and go on with your work. If you want to avoid the ads, just purchase the paid versions of Avast. Even my desktop computer has AVG Free and it does show pop up ads in the right hand corner showing me discounted prices on AVG paid versions and etc, I just simply close it and get along with my business.
By the way in case you didn’t know Avast bought AVG and now they are ONE company and early next year there will be many new changes happening in both Avast and AVG antivirus software. So stay tuned :). Welcome to Avast Forum
Only 1 or 2 pop-ups with AVG per week and I hope avast is not gonna change that.
And as Staticguy said (and has been told a huge amount of times before), you can disable the ads in the paid versions.
Please (re)search before posting.
But those pop-ups are doing just the opposite of what they are designed to do. Most people hate them. You can’t force anyone to buy something. It’s not the right thing. It’s not ethical. Since we already have a banner right in the UI, telling us that we can upgrade, the pop-ups become just annoying thing, not advertisement.
I’m aware, but I don’t use any internet methods of paying. I don’t have paypal and stuff, and I don’t plan to change my habits because of an AV.
No-one is forced to buy anything.
The pop-ups are doing their job.
If they weren’t doing what they are meant for, avast would have stopped using them a long time ago.
Learn to live with them, pay for avast or use something else.
Internet payment methods have nothing to do with it.
If you want to buy avast you can also do it by bank transfer.
I see. As everywhere else, this forum has its own fanboys. That conversation is pointless.
Lol, that escalated quickly in calling us fanboys. The fact is, avast! lives from paid licenses, not from free users. We only contribute as testers and as cloud points because strength is in numbers. It’s not like avast! invented this, it has been around for ages. They may reshape and adapt it, but don’t expect it going anywhere.
The fact is, ads will stay. The banner inside main interface is non issue. There are few popups which aren’t intrusive at all. They only appear in right bottom corner and they don’t interrupt your work. Unlike old ads from AVIRA which were in the middle of the screen and really big.
Ok, ok…I got it! No need to take this so personally. We are talking about software here, not some family related things.
Telling how things are have nothing to do with being a “fanboy”.
If I was a “fanboy”, I would still be using avast but I stopped about a year ago and removed avast from all my devices.
You have chosen to install/use avast free which comes with pop-ups.
It was your own decision. (at least I hope it was)
If you don’t like/want them, use something else or get a paid avast version.
It's not like avast! invented thisVery true. avast even acknowledge they got they idea from AVG.
I know, I know. The thing is…I like Avast! but I hate pop-ups and ads in general. Even Microsoft removed their embedded ads from Skype. I guess they are not stupid.
Not had any pop ups for a few months now on my free Avast, must be faulty, should I try repairing ?
Oh wait a minute better not ;D
you are one of the most ungrateful people I’ve seen. use one of the best online protection products (for free), but do not want to see one pop up once a day
Yes, that’s me. Pure evil!!1!
Blimey, just use gaming mode and you won’t get popups at all.
That’s one way, though you also won’t see malware detection popups. Malware will still be blocked, you just won’t see why or by what. You’ll have to assume it’s avast! in those cases…
I’ve found that turning off ‘participate in the Avast community’ kills the pop-ups (I also have data sharing turned off). I haven’t seen any pop-ups in months except for when I’ve tried turning community participation back on.
But realise that if you don’t “Participate in the Avast commutity”, CyberCapture won’t work either as you don’t allow Avast to upload hashes and/or unknown files.
Greetz, Red.
Indeed.
