Okay, I recently did a scan using Malwarebyte and it detected 4 infections. What’s weird is that Avast! Antivirus didn’t detect these. I am starting to question the effectiveness of Avast!. Why did it not catch these problems??? :-\
Please, name and path of the file, name of the virus found by MBAM.
If you can, please, upload the files to www.virustotal.com and post back the links to them.
No one can possibly say as there is zero information to check.
What is the malware name, file name and location, etc. ?
Copy and paste the contents of the MBAM log in your reply.
The scan isn’t quite complete yet. It’ll be about 5 minuets and i’ll post the names.
Hopefully someone else can pick up on it, I’m off to bed, 3.:30am here.
okay, there are two “adware.wigittoolbar” there is a “Trojan.Agent” and a “Maleware.Pack.gen”. What are the next steps i should take here?
First attach the logs (Avast, MBAM), as already requested.
What do you mean by “attach the logs”? I don’t quite follow
Attach the log files produced when you scanned you machine by MBAM and avast… There are sticky posts here, read them.
Alright, i uploaded the log to that website an here’s the url of the final result
You need to upload the log HERE and attach it (Additional Options - Attach) - not to Virustotal. : ???
I feel stupid by i attached it for you, hopefully that’s what you meant
c:\program files\common files\Spigot\wtxpcom\components\widgitoolbarff.dll (Adware.WidgiToolbar) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
will only be detected by avast! when you enable PUP detection (potentially unwanted programs). Not a virus.
c:\program files\microsoft office\Office12\Keygen.exe (Trojan.Agent) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
Don’t download warez crap. Doesn’t mean it is infected. Many AVs produce false positives with keygens.
c:\program files\resident evil 4\Trainer.exe (Malware.Packer.Gen) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
Generic packer, again, nothing necessarily malicious. Without someone checking the files manually, noone will tell you. You can upload those two to Virustotal but then again, the result probably will not be much useful for this type of stuff.
