Avast missed Astromenda - why?

Hi,

I just wanted to ask why Avast (and Malwarebytes) missed Astromenda on my laptop.

My father still only trust’s Norton and he got a licence which allows him to install Norton on several devices. We had a licence spare so I thought, what the heck…and it detected Astromenda (and I lost a bet with him too!).

I’ve used Avast for ages and had always thought it a great free resource. Is it because Astromenda is adware, perhaps, and that is why I was missing it? If so, what other antivirus/adware etc should I add? I had always thought Norton overrated, but not at the moment.

Thanks

Jim

Is PUP protection enabled in Avast…!?

Asyn is on the right track.

Astromenda is a PUP (or as some others call it a PUA)
avast only detects it when PUP detection is enabled.

I don’t know the details of the bet, but it seems there still is a change for you to win ;D
