My avast moved items folder (C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\moved) seems to be very large (just over 1gb), and my hard drive is filling up, so I want to clear up this folder. However, I cannot see the files in the folder, but I have “show hidden files and folders” turned on! For reference, I am running windows 2000 and avast 4.7.892 home edition… how can I fix this?
Are you talking about avast Chest (Quarentine) or moved folder?
If there isn’t any file there, why are you thinking you have 1Gb used by them?
I go to the folder (listed above), and right click to get the folder summary. This shows that the folder is taking up 1.4gb, but there are no visible files
Strange… mine is on zero… Did you move files to there in the past?
It would be good to show ‘operational system files’ AND hidden files also.
If there is nothing, why don’t you just try to delete the folder and recriate it again?
I’m not sure if any important files are in the folder (I;ve got a lot of important office documents etc)…
But on the moved folder? Why would you have moved the files to there? Because they were infected?
If you’re deleting a folder that should be empty… :
Did you allow to view the ‘operational system files’ as I’ve posted before?
How can I view those files?
Oh… Now I’m seeing you’re using Windows 2k… maybe this feature is not there.
Go to Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder options and right near of the option “show hidden files and folders” you’ve talked about should be (I hope) and option to show files hiden by the operational system.
Yep, there’s a checkbox… the file is “hiberfil.sys.vir” - how could I view the hibernate contents (or are they not worth it)? Should I just delete it? (if I could bring back a previous hibernate state, I would want to)…
You can safely delete this file.
This file will be generated again when you hibernate the computer on C:\ (root).
I see no utility on trying to see its contents… besides this, it was an hibernation while your computer was infected
Thanks! I’m gonna start using this forum
