I just ran a network scan with avast and it said my router had “open ports reachable from the internet” and that my router had a “needlessly large attack surface”, yet when I asked around it turns out they are supposed to be open. Is this just something avast does when it sees an open port or a bug in the new version (I just updated)?
What ports are detected and what (or who) is telling you they should be open ?
Nevermind, I had asked some computer people and looked the ports up on wikipedia but they are now telling me they misunderstood what I was asking and I should close the ports. Avast is working properly
My son likes to use port forwarding for his Internet bs gaming, and I got the message from Avast referencing my ipv4 port is reachable from xx.xxx.xxx.xxx, and open ports reachable from the internet INCLUDE: 7547; but I can find no 7547 when I go through my router settings.
Now, I can remedy this by changing the ipv4 security setting from Low to Medium, but then that prevents him from getting into the online gaming community. I suppose there’s no way to remedy this that will allow him to continue using the open ports? It’s peculiar, that I get this after having removed over 1100 bloatware jpg’s from my pc. There were a couple instances last week where we followed a link to a search page, then got the bells and whistles of “You’ve been infected by xxxxxxx”. :o A few days later, he got the same prompt on one of his pages. YET, Avast found no infections. What gives here? Thanks for any replies…
