First and foremost a zillion thanks to the avast team.
I recently re-installed my operating system. I am using Avast Antivirus 4.8 Home Edition (Build Jul2008 4.8.1229). My System specifications are as follows
Win98 SE on an AMD Duron 850 MHz, 128 MB RAM.
Previously my system was working fine. but suddenly I had errors while updating avast I used to get error messages saying Access is denied. I thought there must be certain errors. I downloaded the latest version from your website and installed it after un-installing my current version. After installing I restarted my system to find Avast in an error state (a red circle was on the avast icon) I moved my cursor over it and found a status message like this, ’ avast! On-Access Scanner: 6 provider(s) total, 0 running '.
On manually trying to start the service I get an error message, (screenshot below)
Tell me what do I do? I know many of you might not have seen and win98 se box in a long time. but mine being and older system, I shall be very greatfull if any one can help me.
well…havent used win98 for years…maybe windows need any updates???do u use any firewall or any other antivirus/antispyware etc?do u use any registry cleaners?
Nope buddy no antiviruses / antispyware / firewall , other than avast on my system… ooops I got spybot search and destroy on it too… but that seems to be working fine…
w98 user here with spybot and no problems
swap file and VM large enough?
any way to get some more ram?
I am using 512 k or 1 meg with cacheman optimizations
the 512kb box is about same spec as yours and the additional memory made a new system out of it
no firewall? are you at least behind a firewall router? or protected by a LAN or something?
more important than AV IMHO
are you using t-timer? T-timer update TODAY!
hmm…ok…i dont know what else to suggest u…i dont remember win98 …maybe trying a repair again…i hope an evangelist will see the topic soon and tell u what to do
