I am getting ready to install XUbuntu on my Playstation 3; an older model with ‘Install Other OS’ feature. Can I install Avast for Linux on as well, or is this not recommended and may cause system instability?
Any thoughts…anyone done it yet?

Hallo, it wouldn’t cause any instability, it’s just an application like any other, in the unshot :). some generic ppc-linux packages were created by me some time ago, but it was a set of cmdline tools (w/o workstation’s gui).

…its about the money, not the infection.
By the way, PPC build of new daemon, for any Linux on PS3, is here:
http://public.avast.com/~cimbal/newavastd.ppc.zip
It’s central scanning service, accepting linux licenses, driven by socket (unix or tcp).
So, get 400.vps from http://www.avast.com/files/latest/400.vps, get a linux license (http://www.avast.com/linux-unix-trial-license-request.php). Then, run the daemon:
newavastd.ppc -d path/to/dir/with/400vps -n -l path/to/the/license/file -v -t 12345
and do: telnet localhost 12345
and from there, you can use many various commands, such as: scan /home/myname
stat latest
…

Unfortunatly, we cat run Linux on our PS3 anymore. I think SCEA thought it would solve the ‘jail break’ issue…to bad they didnt realise most PS# Hombrewers are using it on a PC thru hardware virtualization. I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, wish SCEA would act right…for whatever reason they are acting wrong is getting bothersome.
