Avast One Free & NordVPN Clash

Are there any known issues with Avast One Free playing nice with NordVPN?

I’ve been using NordVPN for about a year now. Has worked smoothly. I installed Avast One Free for the first time today. While both are running, and NordVPN has me connected to a VPN server, I can’t use the browser. If I try to go to a page, it gives me an error that I am not connected to the internet. If I keep NordVPN running, but I disconnect from the VPN server(using my regular ISP IP), still no connection. If I completely shut down NordVPN, then the browser works. All pages work fine until I start up NordVPN, then I get the error, no connection.

I uninstalled Avast, and now it works again.

Any advice?

Whilst I don’t use Avast One Essential (Free), but isn’t there a VPN element in Avast One ?

Avast One Essential, which includes a lot of features for free, including that 5GB of VPN usage every week.

See https://support.avast.com/en-us/article/One-FAQ/#pc - scroll down to the Online privacy > What is VPN Secure Connection? and expand.

So I suspect there might be some form of conflict between the two. I suggest you disable the Avast VPN and see if that lets NordVPN do its thing.

Hey, thanks for that. True, there is a free VPN, but I made sure that was off. Its off by default, but of course made sure. There’s gotta be either a known issue, or a component that’s noticing the IP address is different and therefore blocking the connection. Though, if it were the latter, you would think it would work when I disconnect the VPN server. Disconnecting doesn’t fix it. I have to actually shut down Nord. I removed Avast for now, because I needed to get online. But, going to install it again and see if I can figure it out.

My only other though/suggestion is, ensure the Avast VPN is completely off, disable the web shield temporarily, restart the NordVPN and does it work ?

My reasoning on that is however you have got the NordVPN setup, the Web Shield may not be able to intercept connections to scan for malware sites/content.

I have just recently been investigating the NordVPN and it would also appear to have a malware sites/content check ?
So that could possibly be an area of possible conflict. If that is correct and if it was disabled I wonder if that would remove any potential conflict with the Web Shield enabling you to enable it and test again.

Hi charles

I just install avast one and I have nordvpn and … I have the same problem, but I don’t know if it’s a conflict between this 2. I have resolve this problem by inactivate the web agent “analyse HTTPS”.

I would like it to work this “analyse HTTPS” . But otherwise, all my Web browser don’t work, except for the Avast Secure Browser… weird…
I don’t if it’s help
