Avast One (free) will not update virus definitions

My Avast One (free) running on a windows 10 machine has suddenly popped up a warning saying my virus definition are out of date (25/10/2025)

my avast is 25.9.6177 build 25.9.10453.762 released sept 9th 2025

I’ve tried updating the virus definitions (current version is apparently 250916-0) but it still says virus definitions are out of date (even after a restart)

I’ve tried repairing the Avast app via settings/troubleshooting then updating the virus definitions but it still claims definition are not up to date (even after restarting)

I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling avast again without sucess

any suggestions?

Managed to solve things myself by uninstalling avast again via the windows uninstall tool, then reinstalling it

The build is now showing as 25.9.10453.762a rather than 25.9.10453.762 and there is a ‘scam guardian’ option on the main screen which i don’t remember seeing before (so a problem with an update introducing that not fully working perhaps?)

but it all seems to be working again
