I installed Avast One and suddenly have an issue where it’s apparently restoring from some backup files every time I boot up. Whatever changes I make to the main drive are completely reverted upon reboot, as if a backup image and been restored. There is no way to boot into Safe Mode to uninstall Avast One so that the Windows uninstaller, Revo, and even the Avast Uninstaller don’t work. I even tried to restore the whole drive from backup but apparently the System EFI partition is where Avast is storing the backup files and that partition is completely locked. I’ve tried using diskpart, gpart, etc. to remove the System Partion but it doesn’t work.
How can I uninstall Avast and more important stop the constant restores from the System Partition? The computer is essentially useless right now.
acabo de desinstalar Avast de mi pc y ahora no tengo acceso al SSD, sin embargo windows se inicia a la perfección, que será?
Hey! I ran into a similar issue when trying to uninstall Avast One my SSD drive seemed locked up or frozen during the process. Here’s what worked for me, step by step:
- Boot into Safe Mode
Restart your PC.
While it’s booting, press F8 (or Shift + Restart on newer systems).
Choose Safe Mode with Networking.
- Use Avast Clear (Avast Uninstall Utility)
Download it from the official Avast site using another device if needed.
Transfer it to your computer via USB if you’re in Safe Mode.
Run AvastClear.exe it’ll ask to reboot in Safe Mode again (even if you’re already in it), just follow the prompts.
- Let it Remove Everything:
Select the folder where Avast was installed (default is usually okay).
Click Uninstall and wait for it to finish.
Restart your PC normally.
- Check SSD Status
After reboot, check if your SSD is still locked or frozen.
Open Command Prompt (admin) and type: diskpart
, then list disk
, then select disk X
(your SSD), and finally detail disk
it should say not frozen under status.
- Optional – Run a Disk Check
Just in case, run: chkdsk C: /f in Command Prompt and restart your PC to scan and fix any drive issues.
Hope that helps! Let me know if you’re still stuck there are a few other tricks that might work too.
