So I did a deep scan with avast one and it said this below “We didn’t find any viruses or malware”
We were unable to scan some files, but no threats were found in the files we scanned.
Does this still mean 99.9% of files were scanned
Files that can not be scanned is normal. Some are in use by the OS, some are protected/encrypted, some are ……

So it’s safe to assume that since it said there was no virus and malware my computer is clean even though some files weren’t scanned. I was worried since it didn’t say how many weren’t scanned so how could I know it wasn’t just 1 file or all of them
It didn’t tell me why some couldn’t be scanned it said exactly what i copied and pasted.

There are reasons as mentioned by Pondus as to why some files/s couldn’t be scanned, regardless of why. That doesn’t mean that they are malicious.
- With a resident (on-access) scanner the need for on-demand scans is much depreciated. For the most part dormant/inert files are being scanned, the other active files are going to be scanned by the resident shields when they are activated.
Highly compressed or encrypted files don’t present a risk when they are dormant - if they are ever activated (unzipped/unpacked/decrypted or run), then the on-access scanners come into play and they should be able to be scanned in these cases.
I wasn’t worried they were malicious I was worried since it didn’t tell me how many didn’t get scanned or why. what if it only scanned 1 file? Cause it only said they were unable to scan “some” files cause what if that’s just 1 file they couldn’t scan or all of them
I dont use avast anymore but there used to be a detailed logfile

Number of files scanned/not scanned would be different
Files that ar not scanned is not something that is unique to avast, this happens to all scanners, but it is not all scanners that will tell you this because it is geek stuff and you do not need to know and nothing you can do about it
See if avast couldn’t scan most of the files for whatever reason on your pc would they let you know?

Since i dont use avast anymore i dont remember where to find the detailed log.
In all honesty I’m not even sure if this (files that can’t be scanned) is recorded they are pretty basic.
There are two locations where avast stores reports/logs.
C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\report
C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log
First in the Scan settings you would have to have enabled creating/generate a scan report, for it to be in the report sub folder. See the attached image for the contents of my Report sub-folder.

Hacking would essentially come from outside your computer. In those instances the Web Shield (suspect web sites, content, etc.) and File System Shied would be involved when content is saved to the drive. Then there is also the Behaviour Shield, so they should have been scanned a couple/few times before you run any on-demand scan.
One of the best forms of protection is the person behind the keyboard applying basic common sites. Not visiting sites unknown to you referenced in forums/chat rooms or other social networking, don’t click blindly on links in emails/texts/websites, etc. etc.

Not being able to scan doesn’t mean infected. Your message from Avast also stated that your system was secure.
