Avast Online Security Extension for Chrome

My Avast Online Security 12.0.199 extension for Chrome keeps disabling itself. It only happens with this extension.

When I try to enable it, I get a message box that states “The newest version of ‘Avast Online Security’ has been disabled because it requires more permissions”.

I can click the “Re-enable” button in the message box, and it then shows Enabled in the Chrome Extension list, but it will then disable itself sometime later.

I’m using Avast Free 17.2.2288 Build 17.2.3419.64

Thank you…

Is your version of Chrome up to date?

I believe it is. Version 57.0.2987.110

I suggest you try the following:

  1. remove the extension from Chrome. Totally shut down chrome.
  2. Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I removed the “Avast Online Security” extension, power cycled my PC, and re-added it, just to see if this might solve the problem before I did the “Repair” step to the Avast program, since there was a chance that settings might change.

It’s been less than 24 hours, but so far, so good. It hasn’t stayed enabled this long since the problem started, so I’m hopeful this was enough to provide the solution. I’ll know more in a day or two.

Thanks again for the lead. Without your help, I wouldn’t have thought about removing and re-adding the extension.

Nice to know your problem is solved.

Final Update: Problem Solved.

It’s been several days now, since uninstalling and reinstalling my Avast Online Security Extension for Chrome. The original problem of the extension disabling itself on a daily basis appears to be resolved.

Thanks again to everyone for your kind help…
