Avast Online Security Plugin vs Ghostery

As user of AIS (v9) I was wondering which is the best between the Avast Plugin and Ghostery! I use mostly Firefox and the functionalities of the 2 seem to me exactly the same… just the graphic interface and customization possibilities look better in Ghostery ::slight_smile:

anyone got any info about differences in performances and protection?

It’s almost impossible to answer that.
It’s difficult to answer a “subjective” question like that.
My advice is to try one then the other then decide.
One user will say one thing and you will get a completely different answer
from another. Some like the AOS while others prefer Ghostery.
I prefer Ghostery, but to each their own. As far as protection goes
AOS has anti-phishing while Ghostery does not. Ghostery is an anti-tracking addd-on.
However both are solid privacy tools.

Personally I don’t use either, some considerable time ago I gave Ghostery a try and had problems with it (conflicting with other add-ons), I never really found the true cause, so I got rid of it.

I use NoScript (blocks scripts unless I specifically allow); RequestPolicy (this blocks 3rd party URL access unless I specifically allow); I block 3rd party cookies in the browser settings and use CookieMonster to manage cookies.

For me privacy has never really been much of a concern.

Thanks for the replies!! ;D

At the moment I did not experience any particular conflict with both of them so I will keep trying both (not on the same machine)… probably I’ll stick with AOS on the one where I have AIS installed and keep Ghostery on portable Firefox on the office PC!

I’m using both and have had no noticable conflicts with AdblockPlus and NoScript thrown into the mix. Ghostery seems to block more than AOS though.
