Avast should NOT be f.cking with my writing to a DVD or CD drive, it crashes the write process.
I only happen to catch this error through the fact that the notification icon was animating on initial writing of the image to the DVD, followed shortly thereafter by an error message from the writer software.
Disabling avast led to a successful write operation.
Sounds more like an incompatibility or a possible false positive detection to me.
It would help to have the name of the software you’re using and any screenshots
of the error to help track down the problem.
Should also have info about your system and OS and any other security products running on your computer.
Thanks.
Agreed…but this sounds to me that Avast for some reason is monitoring/scan these files as they are written and either the PC has too much going on in memory and/or the burner software can’t keep up…ie, too small buffers. I agree that IMGBURN is the way to go for sure.
lets make a deal - I’ll send you a box of DVD’s if you provide us information that would lead to fixing this issue. However it will require you to provide me a bunch of information - the easiest way for you to gather all these information might be to create a support package - https://www.avast.com/en-us/faq.php?article=AVKB33#artTitle . We’ll see what we need later to dig into this probably compatibility issue
Also, guys, I was using Roxio Creator Image Burner initially, but after 5 errors of “could not write to the disk”, I switched over to ImgBurn, and got 3 more errors of the same sort. On the same ISO image. It was only by noticing the Avast icon spinning on the initial write operation that I suspected Avast was at fault. Since then, I’ve done about a dozen burns with Avast disabled, or turned off, using both image burner’s, with no errors.
Even on a 14 year old system there is no problem.
I’m wondering about your system specifications and what you have running.
Please attach the Farbar logs to your next post as well as the full report from this tool: http://downloads.ache.nl/everesthome220.exe
if your issue is easily reproducible then it might help track down which component of avast is causing the issue. I’d guess Filesystem shield however you never know. Try to disable just one shield / component to find which one is the trouble maker.
If you have the suppprt package the upload it to the ftp via avastSupport.exe tool. I’d need just the ID to find it on our ftp server.
Avast support worked with me and we narrowed the problem down to the webshield interfering with the process.
I was offered a chance to install the current beta version, but I’ll have to pass at this time, I don’t use the burner to made DVD’s that often, and the issue doesn’t affect burning audio and data CD’s so it’s something I’ll just have to remember to do when dealing with DVD’s.
My thanks to the Avast support people for bearing with me on this.
