Avast Password browser extension not working right since update

Yesterday, I updated my Avast Internet Security to version 19.3.2369 - build 19.3.4241.445, and, now, I can’t get the password browser extension to work in Firebox. The key icon is orange, but clicking on it does not bring up the passwords popup, and my usernames and passwords are not appearing in forms. I noticed that, when I lock Avast Passwords, the red padlock does not show on the orange key. I’ve deleted and reinstalled the extension a couple of times, but it didn’t fix the problem. I even tried removing the extension in Firefox and rebooting my computer before reinstalling it. Interestingly, when I did that, the Browser Integration page in Avast did not have the green install button for Firefox but, rather, the “Re-Add Extension” button, as if the extension hadn’t actually been uninstalled from Firefox.

At first, after the update, Avast Password wasn’t working in Chrome either, but I managed to get it to work. How I did was rather strange. I’d never bothered to install the extension in the Avast Secure Browser since I rarely use it, but, in order to see if I could get Avast Passwords to work in that browser, I decided to install the extension for it. When I did, the Chrome store opened up on the page for Avast Passwords, and I saw a notice saying that it was disabled. So, I enabled it, and, after that, it worked in both the Avast Secure Browser and the Chrome browser.

This leads me to believe that, even though it appears to be enabled in Firefox, it really isn’t. The problem is that I have no idea how to fix it. I have to wonder if some sort of bug is present in the newest Avast update. Absolutely nothing else was changed on my computer or in Firefox.

This is a really big problem for me as I primarily use Firefox, and I go to a great many sites that require logins. And, no, I am not willing to switch over to Chrome for all my browsing. It simply does not have the functionality that Firefox does with all the add-ons I have installed. If I cannot get this to work, I’ll have no other choice but to either switch to another password program or dump Avast entirely and use some other internet security program that includes a password feature.

Passwords extension app keeps dropping off avast browser , would require me to re-add the extension , it’s getting annoying considering we paid for the app.

I am having the same problem. Password key (upper right corner) disappears 3-5 times a day requiring me to go to browser integration and re-enable the extension. This behavior has been happening for the past few weeks. BTW, it is happening on 2 different computers: my desktop and my laptop.

Update to the latest version (19.4.2374): https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=226462.0

Nope, updating to 19.4.2374 did not fix the problem. The password extension still doesn’t work in Firefox, even after removing and reinstalling it.

I have this same problem, and when I try to install or reinstall the add-on, up pops a message saying I need Avast antivirus for windows, and should download it. this while Avast premier is running and indicating no problems. But adding the extension does not work.

I have now been promised tech support from not the regular tech support providers at Avast. This problem manifests in both my browsers, btw, and I have repaired Avast, uninstalled and reinstalled, all with no result whatsoever. The latest version, needless to say.
In fact the Passwords settings page now shows an option for installing the add-on as if it’s not present, this while I have added it to the browser, the icon shows on the toolbar (but broken) and it appears as active on my add=on list. Something is not connecting, obviously.

This development might interest some here. Today when I booted my PC it came up with a notification that my account had an error and to fix it; when I opened that part of settings it said, as it has often before, that everything was working correctly; somehow, I decided to go a little further with it, since this was the second time in as many days that I had this notification. This brought up a requirement to log into my Microsoft account, and I did. And ticked on Keep me logged in. And for some reason, Avast Passwords extension was afterwards added to my browser correctly, and it is still working. Not sure why but I’ll take it.

Which browser were you using? Edge ??? or a different one?

Not Edge. I use both Firefox and Google Chrome, and had the problem with both browser extensions. Both now resolved.

I use both of those browsers among others.
Have never needed to sign into my MS account in order to make the Avast Passwords manager work.
You do have to use the password for the Passwords Manager to make it work.

For me too this marked the first time.
Yes I know about the Passwords password, usually when you have not logged in to the Avast account for some time it asks you for it. This is different. This really was the Microsoft account. But after today’s reboot, I suppose everything is again as it should be, and the problem has gone away… hopefully for good.

So this must be a major FUBAR on Avast’s end if they are not offering ANY workable solutions. “Make sure you download the extension”. Such a cute statement! We know it is not a “Chromium” problem that you do not “provide support for” as it is occurring across ALL platforms with YOUR latest update. Is it time for the BEST antivirus on the market to be dismissed because of lack of support…?

Please offer an update or workable solution!

No, that’s not what it was. When I did that, I got the message Sorry, something went wrong.
Adding, re-adding, and all that was NOT what solved the problem. It was the Microsoft account login that solved the problem.
And since I did that just that one time, everything is fine again.

I’ve been having issues with Firefox and Avast, for at half a month now. I installed and reinstalled the extension. Repaired Avast, updated the program and definitions, to no avail.
It will no longer recognize login screens and fill in the user names and passwords. On certain …umm shall we say p2p sites :P, where there are usually pop ups, Avast would previously show a warning below the address bar - if you right clicked on the page - that indicated that the pop-up was blocked. That is no longer the case either. This is infuriating, because i imported my password backup from my old PC, to my new one. I went through the obvious process of loading the file into Chrome, on my new PC, and then importing into AVAST. Worked fine with Firefox, up until this past month.

What the hell should i do now?? should back up my passwords again, and uninstall Avast, and do it all over again?

BUMP

I guess they haven’t come up with a response yet

I don’t see anyone else reporting such a problem.

this entire thread and others are about this problem…wtf are you talking about?!
