I am so happy with avast on my Windows 98se desktop and on my ME laptop. The little spinning blue ball is a sign that we are protected.
But other are bailing out on Windows 98/ME. (Norton, McAfee, Cox Communications free protection, others.)
I do hope that avast will continue to protect us. There are a lot of Win.98/ME people. Actually, Windows 98 is a wonderfully stable computer.
I just wanted to say I am happy with avast - and my Zone Alarm 6.1.744 plus Spy Sweeper.
When I get a new Dell XP computer, I plan to put all three on it and hopefully I’ll not have to wrestle with trying to uninstall McAfee or Norton. (Which I hear is a nightmare.)
There’s no plan to drop support for the older OS’s at the moment.
However, generally, new products and/or major new features are not implemented for them (if the change is not trivial). That is, sometimes, a new feature works seemlessly on the older platform. Sometimes, however, porting a new feature to say Win98 would require significant code changes - and in this case, we only support the newer OS’s.
