as a network administrator what I set for the DNS servers is what should be used.
without warning after installing avast premier all features of internet filtering and
domain name redirection are thrown out the window.
opening me up to furious customers. After i tell people the computer is safe for kids to use,
not knowing they are surfing smutt because avast feels it is good to use alternate DNS settings.
this feature should not exist avast should not under any circumstances
bypass settings period.
original question how do i keep avast from using alternate DNS settings period.
I’m afraid things are definitely not as black&white as you’re trying to paint them.
Sure, if you’re using DNS filtering in attempt to block users from accessing certain sites, then you probably don’t like if the machines use an alternate DNS. On the other hand, there’s a lot of DNS hijacking going on out there - so for an ordinary user, security wise, it’s better if they’re protected against fake/phishing sites they may encounter if their network gets compromised.
The question from Pete was relevant - if the “Real Site” feature is on, you probably want to turn it off (or uninstall) because that’s most likely the one switching to our DNS servers.
The product doesn’t do something stupid.
It is just you who didn’t read about things before installing it.
And that is a real bad practice for a admin.
Tell me how to turn off this feature ... or don't reply!
Ok let me be clear and respectful at this point as possible.
I was able to turn off Real Site with a simple click or two.
You would think that this solves my problem but what can be turned off can be turned on again.
Is there a way to lock this setting so an end user can’t change it.
also It is my opinion that a newly installed piece of software should not make changes that alter the operation of
a computer, with out notifying the installer of the software. It is my fault for upgrading from avast free to avast paid antivirus,
and then to premier without thoroughly investigating all its features … i put my blanket trust in this product.
My Bad.
