Avast Premium Security Blocking Chrome

Hello,
Yesterday Avast Sales agent convinced me to upgrade Avast Internet Security (according to him an old product) to the Avast Premium Security.
After the upgrade my Chrome browser stopped working. No matter what URL I enter in the Chrome address, the page did not appear. And no message.
FireFox also worked very slow and at times stopped.
Using most recent Restore Point, I restored the system. Now I am back to Avast Internet Security. But the browser works.
My quesitons:

  1. How could Avast Premium stop browser? (even though Chrome extension was not enabled)?
  2. Should I completely remove Avast using avastclear.exe? And then install the Avast Premium again?
  3. Any other suggestions?
