Avast Premium Security disappeared, Avastclear does not help

My Avast Premium Security recently disappeared from my computer. I still see it in Settings – Apps and Features but I cannot start the program or unistall and reinstall it. I am getting the following message: “C:\Program Files\Avast Software\Avast\setup\Instup.exe” not found.

I found a forum entry recommending removing the damaged Avast by Avastclear and reinstalling. I downloaded Avastclear and tried to run it (with Admin rights) – it pretends to be starting for a few seconds but then nothing happens. I also tried to first independently start Windows in safe mode and then run Avastclear but also nothing happened. I could not find any hints online on how to proceed with Avastclear not working.

Please help me get my Avast Premium Security back up and running correctly.

Download and run the offline installer: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premium_security_setup_offline.exe

Did not work. I downloaded it and ran it. Similarly to Avastclear, it pretends to be loading for a few seconds and then nothing happens. Can something in my computer be blocking these in without notification?

  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

OS: Windows 10 Home, version 21H2, build 19044.1466, 64-Bit
No other security software installed. The computer (bought fall last year) came with McAfee pre-installed which I immediately uninstalled and replaced with Avast. All worked fine until mid February.

Hi, in case you’re interested in an experimental approach, you could try Icarus.
