Restart your computer
It may seem simple, but a full system restart often resolves the issue.
Repair Avast (most recommended solution)
Press Win + R, type appwiz.cpl, and press Enter.
In the list of programs, find Avast Antivirus.
Right-click it and choose Change.
Click Repair and follow the steps.
Restart your computer once it’s done.
This will fix missing/corrupt files or broken components.
Update Avast manually
Outdated or incomplete installations can cause errors.
Download the latest version of Avast from the official site: Download Free Antivirus Software | Avast 2025 PC Protection
Install it over your current version (no need to uninstall).
Reboot after installation.
If the problem persists…
If the error persists, please tell me:
Which version of Avast are you using? (Free, Premium, One?)
Which operating system? (Windows 10, 11, etc.)
Does the error appear when starting Avast, or during an update?
With these details, we can guide you more accurately.
When I tried to repair it, it couldn’t change because it said Premium Security had been uninstalled. Very weird because you’d expect there would be no app anymore for me to try to start up, and I never uninstalled it myself so I’m wondering how this could have happened. But anyway, I reinstalled it, hopefully I won’t run into further problems now.
