Hello, my Avast control panel is reporting “Firewall is turned off”. Hitting turn on just makes it think for a while but does not turn it on.
Yesterday I forced an update to avast and after that the firewall started but after trying that again today it still would not start.
A smart scan returns no outdated apps, viruses or malware but tells me “You only have basic firewall”. Resolving that issues game back green but returning to the avast home page still indicated that the firewall was turned off.
Just installed latest updates and again firewall started … but after a reboot it again failed to start.
No information is provided as to why the firewall failed to start.
First try a Repair of Avast:
Menu>Settings>Troubleshooting> [Repair App]
Then we come to standard questions for us to help you: Which version of Windows?
Which version of Avast?
Any other antivirus/antimalware software installed now, or in the past?
OK see you already answered the first 2 questions.
Also, try to go and modify components in the troubleshooting section of settings and uncheck the firewall component and then restart, after that go in modify components and try to reinstall the firewall component.
For what’s it worth, I have the exact same problem.
windows is fully updated,
avast is fully updated,
uninstalled avast fully, then reinstalled,
no firewall selectable in windows security,
No matter what I do avast firewall will not turn on. At this point I’m unsure if it was an avast update or a windows update that did it in. But here I am paying for avast premium security and browsing the internet without a firewall.
Please check the status of Avast Firewall Services in “Services” settings.
The Startup Type should be Automatic and the Status should be Running.
If it is a running then stop and start it again.
To do so please follow these steps:
On your keyboard, press the Win key and R key simultaneously to run the Windows Services console, then type services.msc and click OK.
(or search for Services and open the Services app)
In the Services console, locate and double-click Avast Firewall Service
I used your Avast uninstaller, rebooted, found windows defender & windows firewall turned on.
I rebooted & reinstalled Premier using the provided link, and now all seems well.
Pic attached.
I’m not sure what’s different between your Avast uninstaller & uninstalling from windows, but using yours worked.
Thank you for the help!!
