Avast Premium Security won't open - says "Sorry, We've Crashed"

I am on a Windows 11 machine and when I try to open the Avast Premium Security interface, a window opens that says “Sorry, We’ve Crashed. Please restart your computer to re-enable your protection. If that doesn’t help, try to repair your installation.” I have done both and neither fix the problem. I opened services.msc to make sure Avast Antivirus is set to open automatically, and it is. But the Service Status is “Stopped”. When I click Start, it shows “Running” for one second, then “Stopped” again. I cannot get it to run.

I tried uninstalling the program, then reinstalling. It took hours, and it still behaving the exact same. I appreciate any assistance you can provide.

  • Which version/build of Avast Premium…?
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

The installer file says Installer version 2.1.72.0. I have no other security software installed, other than Window Defender Firewall. This PC is only a few years old and Avast is all that I have ever used on it.

  1. Download Avast Premium Security: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premium_security_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Thanks. I have done all of those steps, and am currently trying to reinstall Avast Premium Security. It has been stuck on 49% installed for 3 hours. It says “Do not turn off your computer”, but I am wondering if I need to start over, or if I should just hang in there.

Seems you have some bigger issue(s) on your system, a reinstall should only take a few minutes.
