Avast preventing Windows 7 from booting

Hi there!

I encountered this forum when I was trying to find ways to fix my computer which wont boot even to safe mode. It is running Windows 7 (32 bit), which was no longer booting. When I tried to boot in safe mode, it seemed to freeze when loading aswRvrt.sys

I followed the instructions in this thread - http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=140353 - up to the point of uploading/running the fix list through FRST from the command prompt.

I am not sure what I need to do to run the fix and what I need in the FIXLIST.txt Please can you look at the attached and assist.

Hi Tetley09,

Welcome to the forums.

A malware expert has been contacted for you. Please be patient.

Your software hive appears to be corrupted

From the command prompt type the following and press enter :

chkdsk C: /x

Then reboot

Ok it is running will update when completed

Reboot didn’t work, however put it into system repair and attempted startup recovery and bingo!! we have a working system!

Thanks very much

Just a thought. Check your hard drive condition and health.

It seems that startup repair needs to be run after the chdsk, I must remember that

Any further problems

Essexboy, recall ran into this before with Fixlist repair.
Needed to run a Windows Repair after “fix” then worked…maybe not all the time, guess it depends on what is being “fixed” ?
