I have two PC in network of 35 PCs all have Avast Professional and managed by the ADM tool. these two PCs I cannot get Microsoft 2007 Publisher to open if avast is installed. The minute I unistall or do a system restore to before the install of avast then Microsoft Publisher 2007 works (no error message just the hour glass spinning until you cancel through task manager or reboot the PC) Any help would be great, thanks
- Installl avast on one of the problemed systems
- Disable the providers one at a time to see which one is causing the problem
Let us know which one it is.

Make sure it is not a firewall or other security software that is causing it.

Just to let you know, I’ve had many problems with MS publisher over the last few months.
It never occured to me that Avast was the problem, even though I have it installed on every site that I manage that has the problem.
However, I can open the program, it just seems to hang while loading the “previews” on the right side pane. For instance, if the user has many publisher documents in the recently opened list, it seems to hange while getting previews of them. Usually, I can’t even get into the task manager to kill the process, and a hard reboot is necessary. Again, I never thought it was because of Avast, I never thought about it. No other applications seem to have a problem.
BTW, are you running 2007 office? That’s the only version that I’ve had a problem with. 2003 seems to work fine as a workaround.
