Avast Pro blocking all incoming emails

Hello

I have a customer who I set up a Vpop3 Enterprise mail server for some time ago. Its been working fine and they recently updated and paid for the Pro Avast on all computers. For some reason around the same the mail server was not recieving any emails. Also they have one PC that just receives everything directly into an Outlook account and thats not working either.

If you turn off the Mail shield all the emails come flooding in. Obviously this is not ideal. Its just possible thier email provider has changed something but they are impossible to talk to.

I dug around on here and it seems you need to go into Mail shield settings and Expert settings and turn off SSL encryption but I am a little lost at this stage and dont want to start turning things on or off until I know what the implications are.

I hope someone can perhaps offer me some advice on this.

Thanks

search FAQ section for SSL and see if you find some info that will help. http://www.avast.com/en-eu/faq.php

Thanks. I did a search around before posting but its all a bit confusing. I did find this article http://www.avast.com/en-eu/faq.php?article=AVKB28#artTitle but I dont totally understand it. I cant decide if its telling be to enable SSL encryption in Outlook clients and disable it in Avast mail shield. It seems to contradict itself but its probably me just not understanding it hence the post.

Anybody else want to help me with this?

I tried contacting Avast support and nothing!

in older avast versions you needed to settup the client with no SSL and let avast do the SSL connection to be able to scan mail accounts that require SSL connection

this is not necessary in latest avast, you sett the client as required by the mail provider

in case you dont get this to work…
microsoft protect all hotmail / outlook accounts with TrendMicro antivirus at the mail server
Vpop3 use ClamwinAV (before 2012 avast 4.X) according to info on there website

I will politely disagree…they do not catch everything and even today under Avast 8 it caught some items MS did not.
I’ve read a lot of threads since September of Avast 9 and there are intermittent issues of Receive or Send or SSL and I have one test W7 64-bit machine that cannot send. I’m hoping the programs tweaks Avast is doing over time will resolve the issues going on…it is just too hard and time consuming to debug…thus, waiting for Avast 9 program turns for the test machine before I dive into upgrading all the other PCs to Avast 9. If Outlook doesn’t work cleanly with full Avast protection I personally would rather rely on Avast 8 that works with email and not get the detection advantages of Avast 9 other places. It’s a awaiting game and not sure if Avast Team is looking into this with the other items they are addressing.

no AV detect erything..... the best would be to have Virustotal scan all incoming mails with all 50 scanners

anyway you have the same protection that any webmail user have… attachments will be scanned when saved/access/open/run
