I am a new and inexperienced combatant in the world of internet security, and have been living happily with Norton for all of my computing life, however recent events have lead me to look for a better package and avast pro seems to top all the ratings & reviews - however I have one question:
Do I need to run a simultaneous firewall, or does avast pro have one? If I do need to get a separate firewall, any suggestions?
(I have a single, ‘non-networked’ home PC running XP which I have almost permanently connected to the internet).
Luke, welcome… I hope we can count with your experience in internet security…
avast! is just an antivirus. You should have a firewall also: I can suggest ZoneAlarm and Outpost (both free)
I’m not sure what “simultaneously” means here.
avast! BART is a bootable CD - i.e. it has its own environment, you cannot just “install” applications there (also, it shouldn’t be necessary). If you are asking whether the target computer can have avast! Professional installed - sure, it can, but it is not active when you boot from BART, i.e. there are no possible conflicts.
