Avast problem - mail core protection

Hi there,

Does anyone find Avast blocked POP3 connection and caused the error of connecting POP3 server recently.

It happened suddenly and irregularly.

My email client is Thunderbird.

Remark: The auto avast program update has been disable. Since, avast seems to release upgrade version frequently.

However, they are always a buggy program and easily to cause unexpected problem.

Could anyone tell me which version of Avast Premium Security is stable for daily use now?

My current version of Avast Premium Security is 24.2.6104.

Thank you.

First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
What is the error being reported by Avast ?

Thunderbird is my default email client and whilst I’m running Avast Antivirus Free with the latest Avast program version 26.7.xxx (details in my signature below my post.

I’m not experiencing this (that said mostly my Avast 26.7 and Thunderbird 140.13.0esr (64-bit) are the latest versions), but as Thunderbird would also be developing, I wonder if that is the issue.

I also use MailWasher Pro (email filtering) to pre-vet my emails so I sort the cr4p/spam/suspect, delete/bounce those and then pick up the remainder in Thunderbird.

Hi DavidR,

Thanks for your response.
There was no error being reported by Avast. It just caused the email receiving fail.
Thunderbird pop-up message was "Cannot connect to POP server, connect error 10060.
While turning off Avast protection or disable Core Shields- mail shield of it, the emails can be received again.
I would not like to uninstall and reinstall Avast program again every time.
I’m afraid it will cause another new unexpected problem by Avast program.
That’s why I hope to have a stable version of Avast program for daily use.

Remark:Checked different version of Thunderbird ver153, 152, 14x, 13x . The result are same.

Thank you.

Given I’m on the ESR version of Thunderbird - 140.13.0esr (64-bit) - I was under the impression that is the latest version (you didn’t mention this is also an ESR version.
Now I don’t know if the 153ESR version is OS limited, my OS being Win10.

Unfortunately I won’t be able to check further, given my using Windows 10 (extended support), the current Avast Free 26.7.11086g version and being on Thunderbird 40.13.0esr (64-bit).

There really are likely be future compatibility in retaining an old version of Avast. But I can’t say this is absolutely the problem here.

You didn’t actually say what OS you are using. If if it were windows 10 then I read something that needs/may need to be done.

Yes, Thunderbird ESR 153.0 is fully compatible with Windows 10, including older Extended Support Releases

If you are running an exceptionally old, unpatched build of Windows 10 from several years ago, it is highly recommended to let Windows Update apply the latest cumulative framework patches so that modern cryptographic web protocols (required for Thunderbird’s updated OAuth browser login) execute correctly. Hi DavidR,

I tested with PCs which are running Win10 Pro 22H2 and Win11 Pro 25H2. The results are same.
I wonder why Avast developers do not care the stability and reliability of their products before launching new upgrade… ?

Thanks.

I honestly don’t know if ESR products would be in the testing process.

As I mentioned it isn’t presenting itself with my system.

Program updates are generally on a monthly basis, I have never set Program Updates to Automatic (pretty much for all programs I have installed, I manually update.
