Avast problem under Vista

Hello.

Little time ago, I bought a portable PC of mark “acer” functioning under Vista.
A version of valid Norton 90 days was préinstallée. I thus made the choice use Avast (which I have on another PC under XP and which functions very well). It’s the 4.7.1029 version.
I used “Norton removal tool” for remove Norton.

But problem, whereas it is compatible with vita and that I undoubtedly installed it well, my PC says to me that avast is " out-of-date ".

http://img167.imageshack.us/my.php?image=erreurevistait3.jpg

Also, I used CCLEANER forremove “security management” : a little acer programm witch may prevent the installation.
I also decontaminated my parefeu.

It tells me 2 times during the installation that “the installation failed” but it says to me at the end that avast was installed successfully!!!

To tell the truth, I am really bad in data processing and I cannot too what make.
Sorry for the English but I’m French.

Thank you for your assistance. : -)

According to your image your avast VPS is out of date (0761-2), the current version is 0766-0, see image.

You need to update your virus signatures, right click on the avast ‘a’ icons, Updating, iAVS Update.

Please, post the last 100-150 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log

You can only install avast trial (demo) once. The second installation, due to antipiracy features will last only 6 days.
Can you register avast Home (free) or buy the Professional?

I have just register avast Home (free). But It always tells me the same thing : " out-of-date "

Because it is out of date as in my post above, have you tried a manual update ?
If so what happened ?

Did you enter your registration key you should have received by email after registration ?
Insert Registration Key - Video

I cannot test a manual update since I do not want to take the risk of going on Internet because my antivirus which does not function.

Yes, I’ve enter my registration Key.

It is functioning apart from the fact that your VPS isn’t up to date otherwise the notification in the security center would be that your anti-virus is disabled or not running, etc.

You can check this by checking the Task Manager and see what avast processes are running, they begin with ash and asw, see image. The most important being ashServ.exe (Standard Shield) the main scanning engine. The avast ‘a’ icon should also be in the system tray, it should rotate when files are scanned and there shouldn’t be a Red circle with bar on top of it.

You could download the full VPS file using this computer, copy to a CD or usb disk transfer it to the out-of-date one and install the latest VPS.

avast! VPS Update - Manual Download

What are the settings in your Program Settings, Update (Basic) for VPS updates, it should be Auto (mine is on Ask as I’m on dial-up)?

Im my Task Manager, I’ve only ashDisp.exe for avast.
And in my programm settings, the settings are automatic and automatic.

Your installation appears to have failed to install correctly. This may be due to installing avast before e using SymNRT to remove any remnants.

In any case it may be best to do a clean reinstall:
Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.

Now uninstall, reboot, run the uninstall utility, reboot install the latest version, reboot.

When you install avast I think it may be best to allow it to be installed in the default location (just in case you installed it elsewhere), C:\Program Files\ALWIL Software\Avast4.

Did you register lately or this is an ‘old’ key? It’s valid only during a year.
Is your system time and date correct? Can you check?

An old registration key or incorrect date shouldn’t cause the avast providers (and services) not to run, the only one running is ashDisp.exe.
