avast! Professional cannot be installed

I really need some help with this.

I decided to opt for avast! Professional so I can integrate anti-virus and anti-malware in one application (mainly because AVG will no longer support the fine old Ewido anti-malware app that was approaching end-of-license time). So I bought two avast! Professional licenses, one for my wife’s computer, one for mine.

We downloaded the installer and she managed to get hers installed with no issues, but I am having a nightmare.

Initially it installed fine, but then asked for my registration code. I copied and pasted the one from the email Alwil/Digital River sent me, and was told it was an invalid serial number. I attempted to ring the Alwil people in the Czech Republic, but there was no answer on the sales lines. Other attempts to phone proved equally useless. So I sent an e-mail. That was yesterday and there has still be no response.

Then I uninstalled avast! Professional, and attempted to re-install it. This was even worse, as avast! Professional will not install at all. I get two dialogues. The first is:

When the first dialog is cleared, the following one shows up:

I have followed the instruction to try reinstalling the program (about 15 times, including after reboots), but with no effect whatsoever.

Needless to say I am not going to run my computer without proper ant-virus protection. I have used the home version of avast! for a few years with no issues whatsoever, so I would (obviously) like to stay with a good product. The problem is I haven’t got ANY product - good or bad - right now despite having paid for a pair of licenses.

Any help that enables me to get avast! Professional up-and-running would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have any other antivirus in this computer?
Did you uninstall AVG correctly?

I suggest an installation from the scratch:

 1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first (if you can).
 2. Boot.
 3. Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation.
 4. Boot.
 5. Install again the latest avast! version.
 6. Boot.
 7. Check and post the results.

Obrigado muito muito respondendo.

I removed the AVG anti-spyware using the uninstal utility resident in its folder. I certainly hope that was the correct way to do it.

I’ve just downloaded the Avast Uninstall and will follow your guidelines immediately after I post this message.

Fingers crossed, I’ll get back to let you know of it was a success.

I see you just install AVGas and not the antivirus. AVGas is compatible with avast.
Must be something else which is messing your installation.
Please, check system time and date also.

Tech, it worked! Brilliantly, in fact. You are a bloody genius. Thank you tons.

AVG’s stopping support for their anti-malware, making it part of their anti-virus package. I’m happy (VERY happy), with avast! and don’t like the fact I was being ‘pressured’ by AVG into buying their anti-virus package so I could continue to use the anti-spyware/malware application. Whch is why I decided to go Pro with avast!, and I am glad I did.

Once again many, many thanks.

What has worked? The installation from scratch or the system time&date?

Sorry Tech. The uninstall using the gizmo I downloaded on your suggestion and then a reinstall after a reboot. It took my license code with no issues and now avast! Professional is working fine.

The system time and date were okay.

Thanks again.

You’re welcome.
Come back any time you need help or just change experiences
