Avast Program Update Didn't Work

Hey, I’ve been using Avast! Antivirus for a few years. Currently I am using version 4.1 Home Edition. The virus updates work without a charm and are very regular. I never got this kind of performance from Symantec’s Norton Antivirus.

I did a fresh install on another home machine of Avast! Home Edition Antivirus recently. The added protection for IM and P2P is great technology and probably for in advance of any so-called competitors.

So I did a program update on my home machine, and the software indicated that the update was successful and all I needed to do was reboot.

After I rebooted I noticed that the version number was updated to 4.1.396, but the interface is still the same old interface with the common internet, outlook and standard protection shields (no IM or P2P functionality).

Where did I go wrong? Please help? I really would like to avoid doing a complete uninstall and reinstall because I have Avast! tweaked just the way I like it and would be hard-pressed to do it all over again.

Thank you.

The update DID work. It updated all the components you had installed.

To ADD components, you’ve got to do that manually via Control Panel’s Add/Remove applet.

Thank you. I found that to be the case entirely.

Good Job Alwil! ;D
