Avast! randomly trying to push Advanced Security on me?

I updated to Avast! version 11.1.2253 recently, maybe a couple of weeks ago? After installation (having selected Free Security in the options) and a restart, I continued to use it just fine. Now I’ve had a random Avast! pop-up appear, that states:

Thank you for using Avast Antivirus protection
Please confirm your level of security

…And then I get the option of continuing with Free, or choosing Advanced Security (paid), which is highlighted by default. I’ll include an image of the pop-up here, just for reference:

Is this a one-off thing, or am I now going to have this appearing every week or two? Having ads randomly appear in the bottom-right corner is obnoxious enough, but understandable in a free edition, however this is full-on annoying and intrusive as it forces me to follow through one way or another, and steals focus/stays on top of everything else. Has anybody else had this?

One other reported this just after you - https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=183137.0

Hah! Good eye. I wonder if it’s a coincidence or the ad’s set for a specific time, then.

Looks like a (little?) change in marketing strategy to me.

I’m getting a pop up that says, "you have only 4, 3 or 2 days etc. to get your license. This is for the
Antivirus, I believe.
I don’t know what happens when my “days” run out but I have no intention of buying a license.
This is something they did a couple of years ago and it was extremely annoying then an still is.

Len

Hope this in response to my complaint about the one I received this morning:

I had requested that they not mislead those of us using the free version.
I can understand wanting the users to upgrade but to do that in a less deceitful way.
I see nothing deceitful in the popup discussed here.
Thanks Avast for the quick and positive change.

My wife received her notice earlier, and it asked if she’d like to continue as a ninja. Clearly she would like to, yes! Hah.
