Ok- I did the free scan and Avast says I have a Win32: Trojan-gen on my computer…Now, I have used their free virus removal tool provided for download on the site…The free removal tool says I do not have a virus…Is there any way to tell what specific virus I have? Where can I go to remove it?? I have been dealing with this for a week!! I tried moving, renaming and then deleting the file, but to no avail…BTW- this is the first time I’ve ever had to deal with a virus on my computer, so I am sort of clueless here…Anybody able to help??
Did you make sure avast! Home was updated? If so then I’d say run it again. If it finds it you should be able to tell it what to do with the virus, delete it, move it to the chest, etc. Post back and tell us how it all goes.
Well, I finally took my puter in to 2 different stores, to find out that they both say I have a trojan that is, as of yet, unidentified (or defined), therefore unable to be removed…`That explains why Avast cannot remove it…Though they are one step ahead of AVG and Norton…Neither of them even found a virus…So now, I’m tentaively using only the barest of apps, etc. in anticipation of my 'puter exploding when I least expect it…At least I’ve got everything important backed up…But I’m confused…I THINK this thing was on the 'ol puter before I reformatted…The infected files are in the system restore area, so I’m assuming that’s why it didn’t go away after I was done??? But wouldn’t a reformat get rid of it?? I also tried to do a sys restore at 3 different points, but the sys wouldn’t let me…Yes, I did update the definitions, but I am planning on doing that everyday to see if a def is found in order to cure…Maybe it’ll work out…I’m pretty much a sitting duck until this thing is able to be defined!!!
I’m not 100% sure but I do believe some viruses can hide out on your PC even if you do format. Plus if you didn’t get rid of the backup stuff theres how it got back. I could be wrong, so maybe someone else could shed some light on all this.
But anytime you find a virus on your PC make sure you turn restore off and scan again. As long as restore is on it’ll just keep coming back on you. >:(
I just found this http://www.pestpatrol.com/pestinfo/t/trojan_win32_gen.asp
says if you follow that you’ll get rid of it.
gng to chk it out now…ur wonderful!! thx
Not sure how to answer your question but an internet search found out where I probably got it… apparently Kazaa installs as some sort of spyware?
