Avast says that I have a virus… Here is what it says… C/System Volume
N/_restore(0a438c3b-a487-4c6d-850c-c76cc3327fdo)
rp609/aoo8 file
I have no idea what those numbers and letters mean… but I clicked on repair and it said that I can not repair. Can someone please help? Thank You
The location is in a windows protected storage area C/System Volume
N a part of the system restore process and is contained in a restore point _restore(0a438c3b-a487-4c6d-850c-c76cc3327fdo) the numbers are generated by windows system restore.
This could well be as a result of a previous virus deletion from one of the windows system folders, windows in its wisdom saves a copy in system volume information simply because of its location.
Win XP-ME - How to disable System Restore
Once you have disabled system restore, reboot, that should automatically delete the contents of the _Restore folders/points. Scan your PC again and if clear enable system restore.
Thank You so much… I will give that a try now then let you know how it turned out. What I did forget to mention before was the name and type so here they are…
Malware Name Win32:Kuang2
Malware Type: Virus/Worm
Thanks again for replying
Okay… I just did what you said to do and it found no virus at all. After it was done scanning then I enabled restore again. Am I right that the virus still has to be in restore and now how do I get rid of it? I wanted to ask another question… In the scanning box next to where it says Scan Archives… How do I enable that? It says disabled next to it.
Thanks so much for your help.
Disabling the restore deletes all files stored there, including the virus.
Enabling it again start a new store, empty.
Maybe just clicking and the option and the label will change…
In fact, I can’t imagine where are you when you see that… Can you post a screenshot of your computer?
You asked where I was when I was talking about the scan archives… When you right click on the avast icon in the bottom right then you click on… Start Avast… That is where it says to scan. Is there another way to scan?
As Tech said it will be gone now from system volume information and system restore along with all restore points, you start with a clean slate after disabling system restore.
Scanning archives will mean that scans take longer, archives by their nature are inert until you unzip them and run the contents. When you unzip it standard shield Will scan the (newly created or modified files) files that are extracted by default. So to my mind adding archives to a routine scan is not worthwhile.
My first scan after installing avast was a through scan with archives included, now I do a weekly Standard scan without archives.
If you want to scan archives then tick the option as Tech said.
When you use the method you stated, when you set the Sensitivity there is a box which you can tick to scan archives, see image (mine is likely to be different if you are using a different skin).
Okay… I understand now… Thanks for all your help.
No problem, welcome to the forums.
