Avast says I'm protected - But Windows keeps telling me it's off

Hello,
I’m using Windows 10 with Avast, and I keep getting messages on the Action center that My antivirus and firewall programs are off.
When I press, it opens a Windows that asks me whether I trust Avast, I click yes, but it keeps coming back.

When I enter control panel, in the security section, I see that my antivirus programs are off. When I press turn on, nothing happens.

And still, Avast is telling me that I’m protected.

Am I really protected?
I reinstalled Avast. didn’t work. I did a clean install of Windows, didn’t work

Repair Avast:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

Thanks, I did that, and will tell you if it’s working soon

OK, report back.

Reporting back: It didn’t work

OK, see: https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB81#artTitle

Thank you, I did that and will come back with an answer soon

You’re welcome.

Update: It didn’t work either: I still get this “Virus protection” message in the Action Center, and when I click on it, it opens the Security and Maintenance and showing me that avast! Virus is turned off

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • Which version…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Avast Free Version 11.1.2253
Windows 10 64 Bit (Not sure what build)
I have MBAM Pro Trial
Did not use any other AV before

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Just did that.
When installation finished Avast wrote that the installation is complete but also had a big red X and a message that said configuration error, with a long log file that contained some errors.
Let’s see what happens after reboot

OK, report back.

Update: Avast did not even install, although it said that installation was completed (with errors, but it did say completed. Does that mean that I now have some floating Avast files somewhere in my hard drive?)

Attach your basic diagnostic logs. (MBAM, FRST and aswMBR)
