After boot up I can hear what sounds like a scan taking place on my computer. The hard drive activity light is full on and the AvastSvc.exe memory usage drops at the same time it does. Would you kindly tell me if Avast Anti Virus Free scans your computer each time you turn it on and if so, is there a way to schedule this for another time?
It doesn’t scan your computer each time you switch on, it is only scanning activity, not initiating a scan of your computer.
The whole point of a resident (on-access) antivirus is to scan files when they are run/accessed, well just before they are run. When programs, etc. are loaded the call to run them is intercepted and the AV scans the file and if clean then it is allowed to run.
Thank you very much for explaining DavidR.
Because the activity after boot up when I open a browser is more so than at other times, I thought a general scan was taking place.
You’re welcome.
As you can imaging during boot a lot is going on with other applications loading up. It seems that every program that you install wants to run on boot, when there is no need for many of them to run until you actually need them.
Yes…now I know what’s occurring.
