I scan dozens of images every day from my scanner and download them from my camera. Every time I go to open them in my photo editor (I use jasc) Avast goes through a quick scan of the photo. I understand the importance of scanning items from the internet but these images are from my scanner of my camera so I do not see the need for a scan and even then why scan the same file every time even if I open it a dozen times. I click the X to close the scan but when I’m doing so many it really slows things down. Is there a way to turn this off.
Thank you. I saw that but it didn’t really help. I wasn’t sure what to check or uncheck. I went back and read a little closer and checked a few boxes that I thought would do the trick but it didn’t help. It still runs the quick 15 second scan on every picture I try to open.
I called customer support and they want 80 bucks to fix it so I guess I either live with it or uninstall avast and go with another antivirus.
- Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
- Which version…?
- OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
- Other security related software installed…?
I’m sorry for the lack of info. It is the free avast, not sure which version but I just installed it a few days ago, and I am running XP (I know its old) They ran a scan and said it was because I had remnants of other antivirus software that was causing the problems. Norton and McAfee which I thought I uninstalled years and years ago using the MS uninstall tool which I have since learned doesn’t really uninstall everything. I have since downloaded and used the uninstall tools from both.
There are still other antivirus programs that well meaning friends suggested I install (malwarebytes, super AV destroyer etc) and I saw them in the registry when they accessed my computer but I don’t know how to find them on my own to figure out exactly which ones are still there. Like the Norton and McAfee I thought I had uninstalled them.
Like a lot of people I know just enough about computers to screw them up. If I could figure out how to determine just which AV programs are still hanging around I could uninstall them properly and that might fix the issue but part of what got me into trouble in the first place was installing and uninstalling programs when I thought I knew what I was doing.
Is there something that will tell me which AV software I may still have hanging around. I found on the bit defender site links to the Norton and McAfee removal tools and that is what I used to uninstall those software programs.
I’m sorry for being such a pain and I appreciate your efforts in trying to help. I’m the one who usually gets tasked with helping my mom with all her technical issues so I have some idea as to how you must feel.
I have several links to removal instructions/tools for av’s > http://www.ache.nl
Just in case you need/want them.
You could also run Farbar and attach the logs to a post here and someone will check them for you.
