I recently updated to avast! 6, and it appears that the screensaver is now broken. I have already tried reinstalling avast, but whenever I press “preview” in the personalization section of the control panel for the avast! screensaver, nothing happens. Same thing if I press “settings.” My other screensavers work just fine. Any idea what’s wrong?
Running Windows 7 Home Premium
Do you have both C:\Windows\avastSS.scr and C:\Windows\System32\avastSS.scr or just one?
Can you check that the screensaver is located in the C:\Windows folder?
When the screensaver starts on my machine, (7 Home premium) it is located here.
Also, can you try a repair of avast?
Open Control Panel - Uninstall a Program - Choose avast - Scroll to the repair option
Its there, and double clicking the screensaver starts it normally. The one in System32, however, does not work.
EDIT: Replacing the avastSS.scr in System32 has caused the screensaver to function normally again. Thanks!
Just delete it, should not be there at all. Apparently leftover junk from v5 during the upgrade, exactly as here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=73921.msg613661#msg613661
