thing I have on my mind on a lazy Sunday afternoon

- Well, the screensaver is included.
- Good. ;D
Maybe you can disable the avast self defense module (Troubleshooting tab of settings).
Delete the file.
But I’m almost sure that a repair/upgrade/reinstallation will bring it back.

The short answer is that it isn’t installed (as in running), it is just part of the overall avast installation, it is just an inert file, that if you wish to run screensaver scans, that is what is used. It is an avast scanning feature, the ability to have avast scan your system when the screen saver is running.
If you haven’t enabled a screensaver in windows and further still haven’t selected the avast screen saver then it won’t be run and that 40KB file will sit waiting on you to enable it.
Thanks for all the great info…
peace out to you all
Gordon

Gordon, one of the biggest reasons I have for loving avast! is the screensaver scan.

Hayc59, did you ever get a working answer to removing the avastSS.scr from you comfuser?
I’m looking to do the same & although Avast support told me to go through the registry, they gave me a non-exising registry key to check; I’m still trying to get the correct info from them.
