Avast screwed up my wireless connection

I have a Windows 7 PC running wireless on my home network. Yesterday, when I went to access the Internet, I could not. I searched for hours for a solution. I even went as far as going to Best Buy to purchase a new wireless USB adapter. Still no luck after installing that. I searched the Internet for every possible solution and could find none.

Finally after many hours (and dollars) of frustration I completely deleted Avast from my PC. After rebooting, everything worked fine! It wasn’t the USB adapter it was Avast.

I’m a paid user of Avast. I haven’t a clue when my renewal will be due. I’m afraid of re-installing Avast on this PC for fear of more problems.

I cannot find anywhere to email or speak with someone from Avast. Can anyone help me? Have any of you had a similiar problem?

Thanks

There is not much we can do to help you if you don’t have avast installed.
Do you remember to what you had set the network ? (public or home)

To contact avast directly > https://www.avast.com > Help and Support

I didn’t have any trouble with Avast until 3/12… was there an update?

I use a Netgear USB Adapter on my Win7 machine to an Apple Airport. It would connect to the Airport but not to the outside world.

The last update was in February (unless you had a beta version)

I suggest you install avast again and see what happens.

Hesitant to go though all that again. BTW, besides completely removing Avast I then had to:

RUN cmd
INPUT netsh winsock reset .
RESTART Computer

And only then could I connect beyond the router.

I seem recall finally running an Avast update before all this happened but failed to connect the dots.

Am I the only one having this issue? I’m afraid of reinstalling a buggy release and having to go through all the pain I had to go through to get my wireless working again.

I’d like to hear from others having the same issue

We really can’t try to help you if you don’t install avast again.

Since everything has been working, it has to do with your system (installed software, settings and such).
The answer to your question if others had the same therefor is basically no.

To be truly thorough the string of commands (Elevated CMD Prompt) to run…in this order…is…
Type “ipconfig /flushdns” and press Enter.
Type “ipconfig /registerdns” and press Enter.
Type “ipconfig /release” and press Enter.
Type “ipconfig /renew” and press Enter.
Type “netsh winsock reset” and press Enter.
Restart PC

Hi there,

I had a similar problem after an update some time ago.

In my case, the solution was as follows:

  1. Open Avast Internet Security.

  2. Go to Settings > Active Protection > Secure DNS.

  3. If Secure DNS is ON, set it to OFF.

  4. Click OK.

  5. Close Avast Internet Security.

I think it is worth the time trying it.

Good luck!
