Avast Secure Browser 75GB Storage

Hey guys.

I recently ran into a problem with my PC being slower than ever and my Storage always running out of Space without me actually installing things. So I looked deeper into it and saw that the Avast Software → Brower → Applications → Defs Folder takes up more than 70GB of space with multiple folders that look nearly identical. I can not upload a picture because I am new but maybe someone can help me, since I dont know how to fix this or even why there is such a problem.

Thanks so much in Advance!

First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member and I don’t use ASB, so I can’t speak from personal experience. Have you tried, Restarting the browser, clearing the browser cache.

Are you trying to use the Upload Icon in the post as there are restrictions for new members ?
However you should be able to Drag and Drop an image on your system (not an external link) into your post.

As I have here.

Though given it is VPS update related I wonder if there isn’t an option in the ASB Settings the three dots, to update defs ?

Even the Virus Definitions folders for VPS in Avast Antivirus Free is less than the figure you gave.

Hi @Dr.Sommer, thank you for reporting this issue. This problem used to be present in one of the previous beta builds, but it should be fixed for a while.

  • Can you please send us a “support file” from your system so we can analyze the relevant logs? The process is described here: http://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/submit-support-file/

Thank you,

Hi @Dr.Sommer,
to make some room in you disk please go to
Avast Software → Brower → Applications → Defs
Sort the directories according to date and delete old folders . Keep there at least one folder.

There is sched. task “Avast Secure Browser Heartbeat Task” which cleans all these old folders but it seems it fails for some reason.

May we ask you to create a procmonlog and send it us to analysis.

  1. Download Process Monitor - Sysinternals | Microsoft Learn + extract the zip file and run procmon as admin
  2. from cmd line or in start application dialog start taskschd.msc . It will open task scheduler window
  3. Find and run "Avast Secure Browser Heartbeat Task
  4. Save procmon log to file . In menu File.. Save.. and check options all events and native log PML. Save the file and send it us for analysis.

Thanks for help
