This happened yesterday 4/9/2019. Windows update was nagging for a restart, and I did. On reboot, now auto-starts the Avast browser, featuring a porn cam site as the home page. I closed it, ran a deep scan with Avast free home version (updated first) which found nothing. I updated and ran Malwarebytes, still nothing. I did a system restore to the last point on 4/4/2019–that ran and then failed, reporting that the restore point was corrupted and was not usable.
I went in to the settings for the Avast browser and removed the “start with windows” option and it doesn’t auto-run anymore. I could not find a setting for a home page URL. It doesn’t auto-open the web cam site now either when you open the browser.
The fact that this happened at all and wasn’t detected by either program has me concerned. Hope someone at Avast is listening.
Are you running the latest version?
