Avast SecureLine VPN and anti-malware functionality [Yes now]

Hello.

Does the vpn have an anti-malware function by default? Or can I activate it?

If not, can we replace the vpn dns with anti-malware dns such as Cloudflare dns for families?

I’m asking to improve security. I’d like to point out that I’ve been using VPN for years and haven’t seen any malware through this channel. I’m already very satisfied.

Thank you very much
Bibi

Hello,

Solution One

It is possible to use Secure DNS in Edge Browser with DNS Quad9. Quad9 blocks lookups of malicious host names from an up-to-the-minute list of threats. https://quad9.net/

How ?
Navigate to browser Settings in Edge.
Chose the Privacy, Search, and Services section.
Switch to the Right-panel and scroll down to the Security section.
Under it, look for the setting bearing the following description – Use Secure DNS to specify how to look up the network address for websites.
Here, you will notice that Edge, by default, uses the current service provider.
However, you can also enable the ‘choose a service provider’ option if the active provider lacks support for a Secure DNS (Domain Name System).
When you switch to the latter option i.e., Choose a service provider, you will see a list of service providers. Choose the one you wish to use.

CleanBrowsing
Google
Cloudflare
Quad9

Once done, the Secure DNS feature in Edge browser will be enabled

If required, If quad9 doesn’t appear, you can switch to a custom service provider.
Simply copy-paste the DNS server address into the empty field.

Hello everyone,

How to verify status of DNS service?

  1. Launch VPN Avast SecureLine
  2. Launch Microsoft Edge
  3. Go to the following URL to check the DNS status https://on.quad9.net/
  4. if the result is :
    YES
    You are using quad9
If you would like to learn more about quad9, more details are available at:
    https://quad9.net/
    It is OK

Another way is the dnsleaktest with standard test https://www.dnsleaktest.com/
If ISP is WoodyNet, it seems OK.
Why? see here with Bill Woodcock, chairman of Quad9’s board of directors https://www.snbforums.com/threads/cloud9-dns.56918/

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) protects the data you upload and download by functioning as a private tunnel through the internet. It effectively anonymizes your internet activity and secures your connection when using public Wi-Fi, such as in cafes or airports.

You can read more about VPN here: Avast SecureLine VPN - FAQs | Avast [https://support.avast.com/en-us/article/secureline-vpn-faq/#pc]

This app doesn’t offer you the real-time protection.
