avast! sends a lot of data somewhere?

hi,
I’ve just instelled avast! antivirus program. It seems to be working great. The only thing that bothers me is that after connecting to the Internet quite a lot of data is being sent somewhere - my DSL program shows a lot of data going out despite the fact that I don’t use any programs that might do that. Is it avast? Why is it doing that?

Maybe you have a bug on your system? Add-ware, spyware, trojan, virus?
Have you done a full scan using Avast! and also checked for add-aware and spyware using Ad-aware Spy-bot etc. Click on the link in my signature.

I’ve done all kind of scans (avast, adaware) and I have zone alarm pro on all the time…
I’m afraid it’s not that kind of a problem

If you turn off the updates (both for VPS and the program itself) will this problem occur or not?
Go to Settings > Update (basic) and turn off automatic updates.

avast sends just few bites to check your update status not you’re experiencing now… Something is wrong in your system.

dw,

Open up ZA’s traffic log. It will show you to which internet address the information is being sent. You can then ascertain the receiving site.

More than likely, it is only the Avast autoupdate or Windows wuaboot running.

No concern to worry if you have already run a full virus, and malware scan.

If you go to http://visualize.phenominet.com/visualzone/visualzone.htm

It is a nice addon to ZA which will track and provide the identity of the internet traffic.

Good luck

I’ve checked traffic in Zonealarm - it might have been caused by shit called “SndMon32”. it may be some kind of new malware or it’s just what’s left of norton antivirus (I used it until today - than uninstalled and switched to avast) - probably norton uninstal sucks and causes a lot of mess. I’ll let everybody know what was that when I figure it out.
thanks for help again

dw,

I hope that you followed recommended procedure for removal of Norton. Unless you do it right, it will haunt your computer system for a long time to come.

SNDMon.exe is a process associated with Norton Antivirus application from Symantec. This process should not be removed to ensure that your system security is not breached. However, if you completely remove Norton, then it can be taken out.

PS: Yes, Norton does cause a lot of “mess” ;D

No doubt about the messing capability of NAV :frowning:
You can download the RejZoR’s application at ‘Control’ in my signature.
This is an option to remove NAV from Registry. At least, the keys that ‘mess’ avast installation. Good luck.
Wellcome to avast.
Yeah, I came from the dark side too… I’m a sinner… I used it in the past… Sorry
