Avast Servers and protocols used

Yesterday I did install Avast on a laptop for a friend to replace MS Security Essentials, and now noticed that access to several Avast servers was blocked by the firewall here.
On the guest access here only the emule and bittorrent protocols are blocked, so I was a bit surprised.

Question now, is Avast using the emule or bittorrent protocol to update definition files etc.?
If so, I will need to put in an exception for the Avast servers with the block list in the firewall.

delete all avast rules in firewall, reboot computer and create new rules when firewall ask
